"Drum therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. From the shamans of Mongolia to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health...
We learn to relax.
We learn to let go.
We learn to lead when necessary, and follow as needed.
We learn to focus intensely at times, and to just feel our way along at others.
And we learn how–without balance and harmony–the slightest hint of discord can send the whole thing spiraling out of control."
This is taken from the following link, and is a great summary of the benefits of participating in a drumming circle.
My goal is to bring this type of experience to people of all ages and stages in Durham Region who have never seen or heard of this method of music making and relaxation. Literally EVERYONE can play along - if you have a pulse, you can join in!
There is something special about Entrainment - it can be as simple as synchronizing your breath and your foot steps, or foot tapping and djembe playing - that eases tension and allows us to relax both physically and mindfully. Doing this in a group scenario can help create an amazing sense of team work, bringing all of us humans from different stages together. The drum is a fantastic communication tool, and the drum circle can help build an amazing community vibration.
